Mr. Taylor is a native of Memphis, TN. He started his musical journey in 2009 as a member of the band at Snowden Middle School, under the direction of WTSBOA Hall of Fame member, Mr. James Robertson. After a great foundation was laid, he continued his musical journey at Memphis Central High School under the direction of Dr. Ollie Liddell and Mr. Roderick White. Under their direction, Mr. Taylor really started to see the connection of how band can affect the lives of students in a positive way. At Central, Mr. Taylor was a member of the TN All-State and All-West Bands. Going forward he decided that he wanted to share that same connection with students of his own.

Upon graduation form Central, Jaylon accepted a full academic and band scholarship to attend Jackson State University. During his time at JSU, he was a member of the Sonic Boom of the South Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Choir. He served as the baritone section leader for 3 years under the direction of Mr. Dowell Taylor, Dr. Roderick Little, Mr. Lowell Hollinger, and Mr. Kevan Johnson. He also studied euphonium in the studio of Dr. Patrick Rettger. Mr. Taylor graduated Mangna Cumme Laude with his Bachelor of Music Education degree in the Fall semester of 2019. He then served as the Band Director at Florence Middle School where his bands received superior ratings in concert performances and sight reading evaluations. Now he has returned to his Alma Mater to continue Central’s rich musical legacy.
